About DebtFreely

DebtFreely was built for one reason: most online debt tools either sell your information to lenders, push you into a paid program, or hide the math behind a paywall. We do none of those things. The core calculator and tracker are free, our content is researched against primary sources (CFPB, Federal Reserve, IRS, FTC), and we never share your data.

Our mission

Help every American household see a realistic, math-backed path out of debt — even if that path takes several years. We focus on the U.S. market exclusively so our guidance reflects real U.S. laws (FDCPA, FCRA, bankruptcy code, IRS tax treatment of forgiven debt) rather than generic international advice.

How we research our content

Every article on this site is researched against authoritative sources before publication. Interest rate averages come from the Federal Reserve's G.19 Consumer Credit release. Collection rules come from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Tax implications (such as 1099-C forgiven debt income) come from the IRS. We review and update each article at least annually.

How we make money

DebtFreely is free for the core calculator and tracker. An optional Pro subscription ($4.99/month) removes ads, unlocks advanced features, and supports the site. We may also receive referral fees if you choose to apply for a product we mention — those relationships are disclosed on the relevant pages and never change our editorial assessment.

DebtFreely provides general educational information about debt payoff strategies. It is not financial, legal, or tax advice. Consult a qualified professional for advice specific to your situation.
